*Application due June 1, 2008*
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
We are happy to announce a 2-day workshop sponsored by CRA-W and CDC focused
on computer architecture, with a particular emphasis on the emerging
prevalence of parallel computing. The workshop is targeted in particular for
undergraduate women and under‐represented minorities currently enrolled as
juniors or seniors in computer science or computer engineering programs;
however freshman, sophomores, as well as undergrads majoring in other
related fields are also welcome to apply.
This workshop:
• Gives participants a taste of research (with special emphasis on computer
architecture) and helps demystify the world of graduate school.
• Offers presentations on career opportunities in the field of computing as
well as panel discussions on diversity and balancing life and career after
graduation. Presenters at the workshop will include leading researchers from
academia and industry as well as recent graduates of Ph.D. programs in
computer architecture.
• Includes a team solving project focused on parallel computing. The goal of
this project is to give participants a substantial and positive concrete
"research" experience within the confines of this brief workshop.
Participation in the project will not require extensive programming skills;
basic knowledge of fundamental programming principles is sufficient.
Students will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel expenses. There is no
charge for the workshop. Anyone may apply to the workshop, but first
priority will be given to women and under‐represented minority applicants.
Applications are due June 1st, 2008.
This workshop is organized by Iris Bahar (Brown University), Russ Joseph
(Northwestern University), Margaret Martonosi (Princeton University), and
Kunle Olukotun (Stanford University).
