month hire*Detailed Job Description:*Supports the efforts of the TELR team
to provide effective eLearning solutions to instructors and students. Will
take a lead role in designing, implementing, and supporting services.

Responsibilities include:

   - Work in teams with TELR designers, consultants, and developers to
   provide effective, supportable eLearning applications and services to
   instructors and students.
   - Administer existing TELR virtual and physical servers.  Apply patches
   and upgrades.  Respond to service requests in a timely manner.  Automate
   routine tasks.
   - In cooperation with TELR and OIT personnel, improve the usability,
   maintainability, and security of services hosted by TELR servers.
   - Provide technical consulting and support to TELR members.
   - Support eLearning application administration
   - Work with partners to troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware
   problems.
   - Participate in off-hour monitoring of services. May occasionally come
   to campus in the off-hours to participate in upgrades and resolve problems
   as needed.

*Minimum Education Required:*Bachelor's Degree in computer & information
science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.*Experience
Required and Desired:**Required: *Experience with Microsoft server,
particularly Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.  Experience with Linux or other
Unix-like operating systems.  Experience using and administering at least
one server-based relational database (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle,
etc.).  Solid understanding of networking concepts (firewalls, load
balancers, TCP/IP subnetting, etc.).   Command of SQL and at least one major
scripting or programming language (Perl, PHP, Python, VBScript, C#, etc.).
Ability to communicate effectively in distributed work environment and in
cross-matrixed teams.

*Desired: *Familiarity with server virtualization, especially using VMware.
Previous Learning Management System application and system support. Interest
and expertise in academic technology.  Knowledge of technical issues
surrounding open source software, content management, and standards.
