Dr Walker was program chair of the original OCWIC conference in 2005, and registration chair for OCWIC in 2007. She has continued to be an energetic and steadfast champion of women in computing. Ellen Walker was recently chosen as one of 15 CRA-W Distinguished Professors to participate in the 2006-07 National Science Foundation sponsored Cohort of Associate Professors Program (CAPP). CRA-W is the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research of the Computing Research Association. I am confident that Ellen will bring the highest level of quality and care to the role of OCWIC General Chair. And I will remain on the OCWIC planning committee in an advisory role (so I get to wear a tiara at all future OCWIC events!) Please join me in supporting and congratulating Ellen on her new role. :-) Bettina Bair OCWIC General Chair, 2005 & 2007 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <5d1a6f030703140921o437b1ba1w5ea60868a887906b@mail.gmail.com> $500k. According to Tory Johnson, the founder of Women For Hire, that's the average amount of earnings professional women lose over a lifetime because they tend to negotiate poorly -- or not at all (20% never learn to negotiate). Is this for real? I ran up a couple spreadsheets, using very modest numbers, just to demonstrate how much money you can lose over your career from failing to negotiate your starting salary (~95k), and then also failing to negotiate your annual raise (~144k). [see below] Soon you will be considering job offers for summer internships or employment. Do you want to learn more about what you can do to get the best possible package? And how to avoid the most common mistakes?
