ACM President Wendy Hall has been appointed Dame Commander of the
Order of the British Empire (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. Announcement
of this recognition was made by Buckingham Palace as part of the 2009
New Year Honours list, and it will be bestowed later in the year.

"This honor from The Queen recognizes her service and speaks to Hall's
life-long commitment to advancing the field of computer science, as
well as supporting her goal of promoting the use of technology to
connect people across international boundaries" said John White, ACM's
CEO.

Hall is a Professor at the University of Southampton and was Head of
the School of Electronics and Computer Science from 2002 to 2007.
Recognized as one of the world's leading computer scientists, her
influence on the development of computer science has been fundamental
in both her academic and research work, as well as in the large number
of prominent roles she has held in the scientific and technology
communities.
