This is your best bet with regard to what you want to do. Import the
PDFs into KWord then edit them (sudo apt-get install koffice will get
kword; it might not show up in the menus though, you may have to just
press Alt-F2 and type "kword")

Alternatively, another option would be to ask the teacher to post in the
native format as well as PDF, I'm sure she'd be willing to help a
student who wants to participate in her class
